Genetic methods specifically activating individual neurons

Hello everyone,

Ask for your help on finding genetic methods specifically activating individual neurons. Thanks a lot!!!

Some endogenous receptors have been described that have cell-specific expression and known ligands or stimuli. Other than these, and more generally applicable, the obvious answer is Channelrhodopsin.

I think it’s also possible to use capsaicin receptor and possibly other receptors for chemicals to which C. elegans doesn’t respond, but these might only be appropriate for surface-exposed sensory neurons.

Thank you!
