Joint Fellowship application for a Postdoctoral Position at ETH Zurich

The Laboratory of Dr. Collin Y. Ewald, Department of Health Sciences and Technology, at ETH Zurich has an opening for a
Joint Fellowship application for a Postdoctoral Position
The aim of the project is to determine the molecular mechanism(s) that prolong health during aging, using the nematode C. elegans and mammalian cell culture, in order to develop novel strategies to treat age-related pathologies. Aging is the major risk factor for developing diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and neurodegenerative disorders. Our recent work has shown that many health- and longevity-promoting interventions re-activate the expression of extracellular matrix (ECM) genes during aging (Ewald et al., Nature 2015, PMID:25517099). This ECM enhancement is required and sufficient for extending the lifespan of C. elegans.
The successful applicant is required to apply for funding before joining our research efforts to explore this novel and exciting mechanism of how prolonged ECM homeostasis promotes healthy aging. The Ewald lab will provide the candidate with a dynamic and innovative scientific environment. ETH Zurich is consistently ranked under the top 10 universities in the world and Zurich offers one of the highest life-quality in the world. Furthermore, outstanding experts in aging and ECM are at ETH. The highly motivated candidate could apply together with the mentor for the ETH internal and prestigious ETH Zurich Postdoctoral Fellowship, which provides funding for two years (salary CHF 176’900 for two years and up to CHF 24’000 for research expenses and travel). Please, visit the website for requirements and further information: www.ethz.ch/en/research/research-promotion/eth-internal-programmes/eth-fellowships.html. Other funding opportunities are also welcomed. The postdoctoral position is only provided upon successful obtaining an external fellowship covering the postdoc’s salary.
For further information please contact Dr. Collin Ewald at collin-ewald@ethz.ch (no application documents) or visit our website http://ewaldlab.strikingly.com/.

We are looking forward to receive your online application. It should include a CV (with publication list), a motivation letter, a statement of scientific achievements, and a 2pg summary of future research plans and interests. Furthermore, please provide the contact information of three potential referees. Please send it to: ETH Zurich, Human Resources, Mrs. Nadja Lang, CH-8092 Zurich.
