The Rottiers Lab is looking for a highly motivated research technician, for a project focused on exploring the genetics, genomics, molecular biology and biochemistry of fat storage in C. elegans.
Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
• Assist PI with research and conduct independent research.
• Culture C. elegans strains, set-up genetic crosses, DIC microscopy, fat staining and quantification, RNAi experiments, micro-injection, forward genetic screens and other C. elegans techniques.
• DNA and RNA preparation, PCR and gel electrophoresis, qRT-PCR, SNP genotyping, DNA sequencing, synthesis of dsRNA and standard analysis of DNA sequence data, cloning, DNA extractions, and other molecular biology techniques.
• Maintenance of live strains (and frozen stocks) of C. elegans
• Maintain a comprehensive up-to-date and accurate laboratory notebook.
• Provide overall day-to-day maintenance of the laboratory.
• Prepare standard media, buffers and reagents.
• Ordering lab supplies and handle incoming shipments of laboratory supplies, reagents and strains.
This position will provide excellent opportunities for authorship on primary research articles.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent. Experience with basic molecular biology and invertebrate model systems (C. elegans orDrosphila) procedures is preferred. Previous independent research (senior thesis equivalent) is also preferred.
This is a full-time (39 hours per week) 12-month term appointment with the possibility of extension contingent on available funding and successful performance.
