I’m a PhD student and I’m studying a neurodegenerative disease using c elegans as a model. I need to label several classes of neurons according to their
function and neurotransmitter profile using fluorescent markers so that i can analyze them under confocal microscopy! do you know if I can easily get
a list of neuronal promotors to simplify my search? thanks in advance
You should check out WormAtlas. It’s an excellent resource that has neurotransmitter/receptor information and even has pictures of expression patterns.
If you have access to it, I humbly recommend reading “The Motor Circuit,” which has a description of the C. elegans motor circuit and may be a useful resource for a new person in the field. You can also figure out genes that are expressed in specific cell types in this chapter.
Very humble! I need to brush up on my motor circuit knowledge and the article would be great, but I’ve hit a paywall… Any chance you could email a copy to bm406@soton.ac.uk? I promise I’ll do my best to cite you!
just in case you want a sneak preview before getting a ‘signed copy’ from the man himself…there’s a ‘free’ pdf version on the ResearchGate site…Google for von Stetina + The Motor Circuit + pdf.
Steve (not von Stetina)
p.s. if that’s a hookey copy then I’m sure Steve will deal with it…
Glad you found it ok. That’s been the hardest thing about publishing that chapter - it seems as if no one has access to it! Glad there’s a free version out there though!
thanks for your suggestions! I have made a list of all the neurons based on wormatlas information already now I’m trying to find strains/ DNAs that label
different neurons subtypes ( like motor neurons, serotonergic neurons, gaergic neurons…) in red or blue so I can cross with my disease model! I usually
go to the CGC and search the neuronal promoters labeled in red, for example unc-47::mCherry for motor neurons! but make this for all the neurons is a huge
amount of work, so I was thinking is there exists some list already that I can consult!
