Post-doctoral position available at the Braeckman Lab - Ghent, Belgium

Job description:
We are looking to recruit a Postdoctoral scientist with a strong background in C. elegans molecular biology, biochemistry or physiology to conduct research in biogerontology. The project will focus on the detailed functional characterization of the C. elegans glyoxylate cycle and its link to aging. The work will include hypothesis development, literature review, experimental design, collection of data, data processing, report writing, development of publications for peer-reviewed journals, and supervision of (under)graduate students.

Position requirements:
• A doctoral degree in an appropriate field.
• Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills.
• Ability to work efficiently, creatively, independently and collegially, and to supervise (under)graduate students.
• Highly self-motivated.
• Excellent study results (preferably ranking in the top 10% among peers)

Strong background in:
• Molecular cloning techniques
C. elegans transgenics and general culturing techniques
• Biochemistry
• Bioinformatics

The Braeckman Lab:
The Braeckman Lab focuses on the molecular mechanisms of aging in Caenorhabditis elegans and is currently studying protein turnover, proteostasis, redox signaling and lifespan extension in axenic medium. The lab also studies the function of C. elegans globins. The Braeckman Lab is localized on the INW campus of Ghent University, just outside of the historical city of Ghent, Belgium. Belgium has a temperate maritime climate with cool summers and moderate winters. Belgium is renowned for its medieval old towns, excellent cuisine and as a European political centre. Ghent is only a few hours away from Paris, London, Brussels and Amsterdam.
