Skilled and motivated scientists with a PhD degree obtained in any relevant area of life sciences are invited to apply for a “Juan de la Cierva” postdoctoral position at the Andalusian Centre for Developmental Biology, an attractive and modern institute with an inspiring and international atmosphere in the beautiful city of Seville, Southern Spain.
Our lab aims to identify essential nuclear envelope components and to characterize their cellular and developmental activities. The nuclear envelope is involved in numerous vital functions including nucleo-cytoplasmic transport, regulation of gene expression and nuclear positioning. Although the nuclear envelope is universal to all eukaryotic cells, defects in its composition causes phenotypes that range from early embryonic lethality to late-onset tissue-specific diseases.
The successful candidate is encouraged to develop his/her own research plans taking advantage of the expertise present in the lab (high-resolution live imaging, large-scale RNA interference etc).
Funding will depend on positive evaluation of the candidate by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science. Applicants must be in possession of a PhD title or be in a position to obtain it no later than 30/09/2008. A period of no more than three years can have elapsed between the award of the PhD and the closing date for applications. Expected starting date: Nov-Dec 2008. For further information about eligibility and fellowship conditions please consult http:// http://www.mec.es/planidi/juandelacierva-eng/.
Due to the highly competitive nature of the “Juan de la Cierva” program, at least one publication as first author in a high-impact journal is required.
Relevant publications from our group: EMBO Journal, 26: 132-143 (2007); Current Biology, 16, 1748-1756 (2006); EMBO Journal, 24: 3519-31 (2005).
Inquiries and/or Applications including CV, research experience and interests and letter(-s) of reference should be presented by e-mail no later than March 9 to Peter Askjaer (pask@upo.es).
