Professional Microscopist Position at Northeastern University, Boston

Facility Manager of Keck Multimodal Fusion Microscope at Northeastern University

Applicants should have either a M.S. degree in biology, bio-engineering, bio-physics or a related discipline, as well as a minimum of three years experience in light microscopic imaging, or a Ph.D in one of these fields. Candidates should be familiar with optics, including operation of lasers, confocal and two-photon microscopes, and the principles of diffraction, interference and polarization of light.

The facility manager is expected to provide close technical support and contribute to the development and implementation of funded or fundable imaging-based research programs by assisting investigators within a large life-sciences research community with interests in (e.g.) biotechnology, developmental biology, nanotechnology, and neurobiology. The Keck 3D fusion microscope (3DFM) is a unique instrument that combines confocal, 2-photon and other imaging modalities (including a proprietary OQM tomographic camera). The 3DFM is designed to be a major microscopic resource for both academic and industrial organizations. The facility manager will play a key role in publicizing and facilitating use of this instrument by this community, manage the facility budget, and contribute to proposal development. The manager will also provide a small amount of tutorial-based teaching of microscopy to university students and facility users.
