Job Description
The research lab of Craig C. Mello, Ph.D, at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, has an immediate opening for a highly motivated and energetic research technician.
The candidate will support ongoing research projects in RNA interference, Crispr/CAS9, and Developmental biology. This is an HHMI position.
Principal Responsibilities:
Assist postdoctoral fellows and graduate students with research projects
Perform technical procedures such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, molecular biology
Help with maintenance and organization of lab elegans strain
Prepare general lab stocks
Operate scientific instrumentation such as microscopes etc.
Collect, record, organize and verify data. May use software applications
Actively contribute to laboratory meetings and planning sessions
Physical Requirements:
Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
Work may involve exposure to low levels of hazardous materials; low dose radiation, and toxic chemicals
Will include long periods of standing or sitting
Required Experience
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related scientific discipline
Minimum of two years experience in a laboratory setting
Molecular biology and C elegans experience preferred
Able to work independently and as a team member
