The Pellettieri Lab in the Biology Department at Keene State College is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, post-doctoral teaching/research position. The successful applicant will teach undergraduate lecture/lab courses and conduct research on the cellular and molecular biology of planarian flatworms (with potential inclusion of a C. elegans project for those who prefer their worms round). This is an ideal opportunity for an individual who wishes to pursue a career as a teacher-scholar at a predominantly undergraduate institution. The initial appointment will be for 2 years, with the possibility of renewal upon receipt of additional grant funding. Desired start date in summer, 2017.
Keene State College is a public liberal arts college with approximately 4,000 students located in the scenic Monadnock region of Southern New Hampshire. The Biology Department offers a comprehensive education in the life sciences, with an emphasis on integrated lecture/lab classes and student research experiences. The College is a partner institution in the NIH New Hampshire IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (NH-INBRE), providing faculty and students with opportunities for research training and access to core facilities at Dartmouth College and UNH.
The Pellettieri Lab, supported by NIH and NSF funding, is conducting research on planarian regeneration and stem cell biology, and is also using planarians to investigate the basic science of rare, but potentially life-threatening diseases of heme biosynthesis called porphyrias (see https://elifesciences.org/content/5/e14175 for details). Located in the modern and award-winning David F. Putnam Science Center, the lab is well equipped for molecular biology and microscopy, and is supported by a full-time research associate and departmental administrative assistant.
