Worm cleaning / collecting

Hello,

What is the best way of cleaning and collecting the worms? so that when we collect the worms in a falcon we dont have any OP50 or agar attached to them…

Thanks.

There are a number of ways depending on what you want at the end. You can just add M9 gently, and then take off liquid gently, the adults should float off with minimal bacteria. You can wash off worms, let them settle by gravity and rinse a number of times until the supernatant is cleared of bacteria. You can wash off adults and embryos and then bleach them to collect embryos. This will kill the bacteria. It really depends on what you want for your downstream application. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply.

I am mainly collecting worms for Lipid extraction …

As medawg says, just wash them with M9 multiple times.
