Ad for Head of C. elegans Facility, Basel, Switzerland

Friedrich Miescher Institute
for Biomedical Research

The Friedrich Miescher Institute, as part of the Novartis Research Foundation, is devoted to fundamental biomedical research and is situated in Basel, Switzerland. Our goal is to exploit new technologies to further our understanding of the basic molecular mechanisms that underlie health and disease in multicellular organisms. Currently, we host five research groups working exclusively or partly with C. elegans.

Head of C. elegans Facility

To support and strengthen these research groups we are looking for a person to run the C. elegans facility. This involves centralizing and maintaining worm reagents and in-house databases. The successful candidate is also expected to help the different groups in (1) carrying out automated, high-throughput RNAi screens, (2) generating C. elegans gene knock-out strains, and (3) implementing new technologies for targeted gene alterations in the worm.

The ability to work independently is important and highly motivated candidates with a PhD and expertise in C. elegans biology and genetics are encouraged to apply. Please send your CV, a brief cover letter describing your research experience, and two references to human.resources@fmi.ch or by post to Human Resources, Friedrich Miescher Institute, Maulbeerstrasse 66, 4058 Basel, Switzerland.

For informal inquiries, please contact Dr. Joy Alcedo (joy.alcedo@fmi.ch). The closing date for applications is February 27, 2009.
