Hi all,
I am contacting all you because my institution asked me if we have to pass any bioethics committee/evaluation since we are working with C. elegans.
As far as I know, we do not have to pass any, but I couldn´t find any document confirming it, am I correct with this affirmation?
Anyone of you have a document confirming C. elegans are out of the scope of any bioethical committee?
Any information / previous experience would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance,
Anna
The rules are different in different countries. For Europe, you can say, "As an invertebrate, C. elegans does not fall within the scope of EU Directive 2010/63/EU on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes. Experiments with C. elegans do not require bioethical committee approval.

Hi Anna,
The legislation in Spain (BOE-A-2013-1337) refers to the EU Directive that Jonathan mentions and I normally use a phrase very similar to his suggestion.
However, you need a bio safety permission for working with genetically modified organisms (unless you stick to N2s only )
Hope this helps.
