GO and conservation of threatened species

In another installment of this “uses of GO” series, we’re highlighting a paper that uses GO to gain insights into the evolution of Naemorhedus with the hope that knowledge will help preserve the threatened animal. In BMC Genomics, Sun et al. use GO, alongside KEGG, for functional annotation of genes and comparison to 10 Bovidae species to clear up debate about species delimitation and phylogenetic status of the genus Naemorhedus within the subfamily Caprinae.
