GO and SNAP: ageing and schizophrenia

A new Nature paper from Ling et al. looks at the synaptic neuron and astrocyte program (SNAP) in the human brain in order to shed some light on ageing and schizophrenia. Ling et al. used latent factor analysis to identify multicellular gene programs, and then used GO to investigate the latent factor associated with schizophrenia. In both glutamatergic and GABAergic neurons, the latent factor (LF4) involved increased expression of genes with synaptic functions:
