halocarbon oil substitute

Dear all,

I´m planning to do microinjection. I know that the protocol uses halocarbon oil, but I read a comment in “Celegans – CELEGANS/bionet.celegans” which says that some people is using a heavy mineral oil instead of halocarbon oil, and apparently it works fine. And the mineral oil is $3.70, as compared with $50-$84 for comparable amounts of halocarbon oil.
I would appreciate anyone’s comments about this.

Many thanks in advance!

Laura

Hi,

I assume you mean this message from Leon Avery (now 15 years old) about Curtis Loer’s comment that he used heavy mineral oil??

see link here: http://www.bio.net/bionet/mm/celegans/1997-October/001494.html.

Leon comments that the density of the halocarbon oil might be an advantage over light mineral oil, but that heavy mineral oil may work.

I’d take Leon and Curtis’s word and try it.

Steve

I meant the message was 15 years old not Leon!
