Inducing dauer using egg white

Hi all,

What’s the basis of inducing dauer by plating gravid adult hermaphrodites on egg white plate? What’s the advantage of it compared to plating worms at high density without egg white?

Looking around a bit, it would appear that these are used because they’re especially nutrient-rich, so you can grow the worms to a very high density, thereby promoting dauer development once the food finally runs out.
