interspecific crosses

Hello all,

I’ve been trying to cross c. elegans with a few other caenorhabditis species , but none of my crosses have been working- all i get are a few unfertilized eggs. I’ve been using 7 males x 3 females/hermaphrodites on small bacterial pads and have tried the crosses at both 20C and 25C. Has any one had this problem before or have any advice?

Although some interspecific crosses yield viable progeny (see http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20823339), those are the exception (e.g., http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11256419 and http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11254351).
