Land plants & fungi: GO can help to explore long-standing interaction

Physcomitrium patens, the model moss species, plus Benniella erionia & Linnemannia elongata, both filamentous fungal species, are the focus of a brand new publication from Mathieu et al., where GO enrichment analysis was used to look at differentially expressed genes. Mathieu et al. used g:Profiler and highlighted gene groups involved in transmembrane transport, calcium/inorganic ion transport, and localization as implicated in plant-fungal exchange.

Our study provides insights into how plants and fungal partners may have interacted based on their communications observed today as well as identifying L. elongata and B. erionia as modern fungal endophytes with P. patens.
