nuclear targeting of gfp or gfp::LacZ => 'toxic'?

Is there any evidence that nuclear targeting of gfp or gfp::LacZ can be ‘toxic’? Pgoi::gfp transcriptional & translational
extrachromosomal reporters are fine but equivalent Pgoi::NLS::gfp or Pgoi::NLS::gfp::LacZ versions generate transgenics with
lovely intense nuclear staining but that mostly die at L1/L2. Survivors show limited nuclear expression or mosacism suggesting it’s the
nuclear targeting that’s the problem. Expression is strong hyp.
