PhD and post-doc positions: imaging infection in the epidermis

In the framework of an 8-year collaborative project called INFORM, a 2-year post-doctoral fellowship and a PhD studentship are currently available to work under the supervision of Nathalie Pujol in the Ewbank lab at the CIML in Marseille, France.

We have genetically and biochemically characterized the signalling pathways activated by natural fungal infection of C. elegans. These lead to the rapid up-regulation of antimicrobial peptide gene expression in the epidermis. Through the application of high-resolution dynamic imaging techniques, in collaboration with the biophysics team of He and Marguet at the CIML, we aim to correlate the progression of the infection with activation of these signalling pathways and to changes in host cell biology.

Applications for the PhD position are handled directly by INFORM, which has set-up an International PhD program. Details can be obtained from the website. The deadline is the 1st April.

Applications for the post-doc position should include a CV, letter of motivation and the addresses of 3 referees and be sent to Nathalie Pujol (pujol[at]ciml.univ-mrs.fr), who also would be happy to answer informal inquiries.

Marseille is a vibrant Mediterranean city and is this year’s European Culture Capital.
