Job Description - Research Associate I (20003443)

JOB PURPOSE:
Conduct investigative research requiring the application and analysis of standard assays in molecular and cellular biology along with procedures as defined by the project.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform standard designated procedures associated with experiments/projects; interpret and analyze results; present data in organized form, maintain detailed lab notebooks.
Review up-to-date scientific literature extracting information relevant to ongoing, proposed, or possible research projects.
Learn, develop and utilize new techniques which facilitate research goals by consulting literature or other University personnel including faculty, students and research assistants.
Provide written progress reports to supervisor.
Apply appropriate quality controls to ensure validity, rigor, and reliability of results.
Demonstrate and teach laboratory or research techniques, methods, and procedures to public or University students and employees as needed.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist with ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, and keeping laboratory clean and organized.
May travel to sites associated with designated project to collect data/ specimens or perform experiments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree
Experience: One year experience conducting research in an academic laboratory studying molecular/cellular biology or a very closely related field.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Direct experience working with a genetic model organism such as C. elegans, Drosophila, or vertebrate system.
Strong grades in course work relevant to molecular, cellular and developmental biology, biochemistry, genetics, and other related areas.
Willingness to live and work in Laramie Wyoming.
