PomBase, the model organism database for Schizosaccharomyces pombe (fission yeast), has a brand new Genetics article. Rutherford et al. provide a fantastic update on the incredible PomBase, including how PomBase contributes to GO (& other resources), how they display GO, and even how the PomBase code is being used to create a MOD for the Schizosaccharomyces japonicus community without any dedicated professional biocuration. This paper does a wonderful job of presenting the work that biocurators do to keep MODs like PomBase indispensable not only to that specific organism’s community, but to the research community at large.
