Post-doctoral research position in Aging and RNA biology

An NIH-funded postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Alexander van der Linden in the Biology Department at the University of Nevada in Reno (near Lake Tahoe) to study the role of circular RNAs (circRNAs) in aging. The postdoctoral scholar will be co-advised by Drs. van der Linden and Miura (see: https://www.vanderlindenlab.com and http://www.post-transcriptional.com/). We use next generation sequencing approaches, genome-editing, and behavioral analysis to uncover the regulatory mechanisms and functions of circRNAs in aging C. elegans. See our recent research on circRNAs [BMC Genomics (2018): doi 10.1186/s12864-017-4386-y].

Candidates must hold a PhD degree in Molecular Biology or a related area. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual with a productive work ethic and the ability to work cooperatively in a team. Priority will be given to candidates with a demonstrated research excellence and who are capable of implementing innovative approaches. The main task for this position will be to investigate the function of circRNAs in aging C. elegans, but the candidate will also have potential opportunities to work on other projects in the lab. A demonstrated background in molecular biology, genetics and microscopy is preferred.

The initial appointment will be for one year, and will be renewable up to 3 years (or more) depending on adequate research progress and availability of funding. Reviews of candidates will start immediately and continue until the position is filled. Salary will be based on the NIH postdoctoral pay scale.

The University of Nevada in Reno has a stimulating academic environment that promotes diversity and inclusion. A wide array of resources and core facilities for both cell/molecular and neuroscience research are provided by $10 million NIH Center Grants. Reno is located in northern Nevada, with outstanding four seasons living a short 45 minute drive from beautiful Lake Tahoe. Reno has the amenities of a university town with excellent schools, arts and entertainment, and outdoor recreation, i.e. hiking, mountain biking, snowboarding and skiing with eight major ski resorts in the vicinity. We are located less than four hours from the San Francisco Bay area. The State of Nevada has no state income tax.
