A position is available immediately for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to study the role of bacteria as a food source in the aging of C. elegans. Our current research is focused on how C. elegans digests bacteria with a particular focus on host lysozymes and the implications of these mechanisms for lifespan and metabolism. We address these questions in both C. elegans and bacteria using genetic and molecular biological approaches. The laboratory is located in the Dept. of Microbiology & Immunology at Columbia University. There are numerous excellent C. elegans labs (Hobert, Greeenwald, Grishok) located on other floors of our building and we enjoy close interaction with them. This would be an excellent position for an independently minded individual who wishes to broaden her/his scientific horizons.
Applicants must have a PhD in biology or a related field. Experience with C. elegans is strongly preferred. Interested applicants should submit their curriculum vitae and a brief statement of research interests to: Jonathan Dworkin (jonathan.dworkin@columbia.edu).
