Postdoc position at NIH; Centriole/Basal Body Biogenesis, Stabilty and Function

Position Type: Postdoctoral Position at the NIH

Position Title: Centriole/Basal Body Biogenesis, Stabilty and Function

Lab: Kevin O’Connell

Postiion Description: A postdoctoral fellowship is available beginning in Summer/Fall 2018 to study the molecular mechanisms governing the biogenesis, stability and function of centrioles/basal bodies. These organelles play central roles in cell division, cell motility, cell signalling and the generation and mantainence of polarity. Our laboratory is particularly interested in understanding how centriole/centrosome dynamics are integrated with the cell cycle and developmental events. All projects employ the nematode C. elegans as a model system to address a host of issues including characterization of the centriole assembly pathway, analysis of the molecular mechanisms that underlie the stability and regulated destruction of centrioles, and elucidation of the developmental mechanisms that govern centriole inheritance. Our laboratory is located within the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, National Institutes of Health in Bethesda MD, USA. For more details, please see our web site at https://www.niddk.nih.gov/about-niddk/staff-directory/intramural/kevin-oconnell/Pages/research-summary.aspx. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated to develop their own research program and possess a Ph.D. or M.D. degree with a strong background in biochemistry, genetics, and/or molecular & cellular biology. Good oral and written communication skills are required. Qualified individuals should send a cover letter describing research experience and interests, curriculum vitae, bibliography, and contact information for three references (including the current supervisor) to: Dr. Kevin O’Connell at kevino@mail.nih.gov. The NIH is dedicated to building a diverse community in its training and employment programs.
