Postdoctoral Position in Neural Circuits and Metabolic Control - La Jolla CA

Research Description:
We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral fellow to work in the area of neural circuits and neuroendocrine biology of metabolism. It is well-established that body fat is under the control of brain circuits, independent of the effects of food intake. In the context of living animals, the neuroendocrine signals and physiology of body fat control remain poorly understood. In our lab, we utilize C. elegans as a model system for our studies of the neurobiology of body fat, and the endocrine connections between body fat and the nervous system. Our research program is uniquely juxtaposed at the intersection of neuroscience and physiology, and offers an exciting new perspective on the biology of body fat control. Our approach integrates several disciplines including molecular genetics, chemical biology, neuroscience, behavior and physiology. The Scripps Research Institute is one of the world’s leading biomedical research institutes, and offers outstanding scientific opportunities for collaborations with laboratories engaged in cutting-edge science and novel technologies.

Requirements:
Ph.D. in genetics, neuroscience, biochemistry, physiology or related disciplines. The candidate should have a strong background in molecular biology and neuroscience, and a conceptual understanding of biochemistry or physiology. First-author publications (or manuscripts in press) are a must, along with the interest and capacity to obtain postdoctoral fellowships. Previous experience with C. elegans is not a requirement. The candidate must be driven, possess a sense of scientific curiosity, and enjoy working in a team-oriented and stimulating environment. Please apply with your CV, a brief statement of research interests and the names of 2-3 supervisors and mentors who can be contacted for references.
