Postgraduate associate position (fixed term technician) at Yale University

For a newly established lab in the department of Molecular Cellular and Developmental Biology at Yale University, we are looking for a thoughtful and motivated recent college graduate, with affinity for invertebrate biology, and an interest in learning molecular techniques. The candidate should hold a B.S. with a major in a biological discipline and have experience in a biological research environment. A strong sense of responsibility and a good eye for animal health are essential. Please note, due to university regulations this position is only for recent graduates, and only for a maximum term of 2 years.

Our work focusses on the dynamics and regulation of pluripotent stem cells, using the freshwater flatworm Schmidtea mediterranea as a model. Schmidtea mediterranea has the ability to regenerate or repair any part of its body, and can even regrow its entire brain. We study the molecular processes involved in this amazing regenerative ability, using molecular imaging, confocal microscopy, single cell RNA sequencing, and computational analysis.

Your responsibilities will include the monitoring of a novel high-tech recirculation system for animal culture and the expansion of the animal colony. Furthermore you will actively participate in the projects developing in the lab and will learn the wide array of techniques involved, including cloning, RNA synthesis, imaging techniques, and cell sorting. We offer you a dynamic start-up environment in which you will have the chance to grow and really make a difference. The research experience you acquire will give you a great basis to apply to grad school, or pursue another research-related career.

The position is for 1 year, extendable to 2 years, and is available immediately.
To apply, please send a CV and a cover letter explaining your motivation to josien.van.wolfswinkel@yale.edu. Also please suggest a reference who can evaluate your lab experience.
