Quality of 60 mm plates from different manufacturers

The distributor we get our 60 mm plates for worm maintenance has changed manufacturers and the new plates don’t work well in our plate pouring machine. So we are looking into alternative manufacturers…

My PI has experienced a case where she switched plates to a new manufacturer and saw an increased mutation rate due to off gassing from the plastic. Needless to say we would like to avoid this!

What plate manufacturers are people using successfully. The ones we have available to us are Akro-Mils, Corning, Falcon and Gosselin. Please let us know what you use successfully or have had problems with.

Thanks!

I think I can speak for the entire C. elegans community when I ask you which plate gave an increased mutation rate. That’s one we’d all like to avoid!

I don’t know… I am skeptical of claims of mutation from “off-gassing.”

Well sure. That would implicate plates as a potential carcinogen.

I’ve used Tritech in the past. Is it they who have switched manufacturer?
