Research assistant position available

A full time research assistant position is available in a lab studying C. elegans neuroethology at the University of Chicago. The goal of our laboratory is to understand how small neuron circuits regulate the behavior of the animal, i.e. how sensory information is processed in the nervous system and translated to appropriate action, what constraints limit the performance of neural circuits in vivo and how neural circuits are designed for operation under these constraints. We use standard C. elegans genetic and genomic methods in combination with biophysical and optical methods for the purpose of monitoring the behavior and physiology of wild-type, mutant and transgenic animals. Our studies are primarily done in vivo although working with a primary culture of C. elegans neurons is possible. Tasks will include independent research (if so desired) assisting lab members with molecular biology experiments and assisting in the routine maintenance of the lab. Working independently on a research project is encouraged.

Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry or molecular/cell biology and three years of experience in a related research laboratory OR a master’s degree - required;
Experience with basic molecular biology and biochemistry techniques - required;
PhD in related field - preferred;
Prior experience working at a C. elegans laboratory – preferred.
Naturally, it is best if you are methodical, well organized, detail oriented and able to work both independently and in a team.

If interested, please send a cover letter, a Curriculum Vitae and the names of two refs to david.biron_at_gmail.com .
