OFFICIAL:
The Fay Lab, located in the beautiful mountain west of Laramie Wyoming, is seeking a motivated Research Assistant or Research Associate to join Dr. Fay’s research group in the Department of Molecular Biology at the University of Wyoming (David S. Fay |University of Wyoming). The successful candidate will work independently and with other team members on NIH-funded projects involving the molecular and genetic control of C. elegans development with emphasis on cell biology, signal transduction, and cell-matrix interactions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential duties will be to independently and collaboratively conduct laboratory experiments, primarily in the C. elegans system, as needed to complete NIH-funded projects designed to understand the molecular and genetic control of C. elegans development. Specific duties may include but are not limited to: C. elegans genetic manipulation including the use of transgeneic and CRISPR/Cas9 methods; phenotypic analysis of C. elegans strains at the organismal, cell biological, and molecular levels; cell biological studies including the use of confocal microscopy and quantitiative analyses; DNA recombinant methods and plasmid cloning; biochemistry including western blotting, protein purification, and protein interaction studies; whole genome sequencing and other high-throughput sequencing methods and analysis; and manuscript preparation in cooperation with the P.I. Once trained, the successful candidate may be responsible for training other laboratory personnel, as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The minimal qualifications are a B.S. and at least 1 year of full time research experience or at least 2 years of part-time research experience in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, developmental biology, cell biology, or a very closely related field. In addition, good written and oral communication skills, strong grades in relevant coursework, and three strongly supportive letters of recommendation are required. Preferred qualifications include direct experience in the C. elegans system or other skill sets directly relevant to the laboratory’s research focus. For more experienced researchers, an appropriate level of authorships in high-quality peer-reviewed scientific research journals is expected.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Extensive working laboratory experience with methods relevant to the molecular genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and developmental biology of metazoan model organisms, in particular C. elegans.

REQUIRED MATERIALS:
Complete the online application and upload the following for a complete application: cover letter describing your specific interest in the position and research area, resume or C.V., academic transcript, and contact information for three relevant references who have served as supervisors.
