The Sengupta lab in the Department of Biology at Brandeis University is looking for a highly motivated and organized individual to join the lab as a Research Assistant. The major research interests of the lab are to explore the genetic, molecular and neuronal mechanisms that drive development and behavior (see lab website for more details: http://www.bio.brandeis.edu/senguptalab/). The lab is a member of both the Molecular Cell Biology and Neuroscience Programs at Brandeis, and uses a range of approaches to study this issue in the C. elegans model system.
Examples of Key Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Research Assistant will be to:
• Manage the lab (50% time). This includes managing our extensive strain collection, ordering supplies, and generally ensuring that the lab is running smoothly.
• Perform independent or supervised research (50% time). The successful candidate will carry out a semi-independent research project, and will have the opportunity to learn state-of-the-art techniques and approaches in molecular biology and neuroscience. Many previous assistants have authored published manuscripts.
Qualifications:
This position is ideal for a candidate seeking to obtain additional research experience prior to entering graduate school in the life sciences. We require a minimum commitment of two years, and a Bachelor’s degree in the Life Sciences. Previous research experience (in an undergraduate lab setting or elsewhere) is essential; experience with C. elegans is not necessary. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Start date is May, 2018.
