Ric-4

Hi all,

I just wanted to know if anyone here has an outcrossed ric-4 strain (RM956)?

cheers

Sudhanva

or any strain with the mutant ric-4 allele would also be okay…

cheers

The first place you should look would be the Caenorhabditis Genetics Center (CGC), which distributes many C. elegans strains. A quick look determined that there are four such strains currently at the CGC (https://cgcdb.msi.umn.edu/search.php?st=ric-4&field=all&exst=&exfield=all).

And also, the WormBase page for a given gene usually lists all the reagents associated with studying that gene (transgenes, mutants, RNAi clones, antibodies). So in the future you can also check there.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the reply.

I have done all that before. I did buy in a couple of strains (RM956 and VC816) and the RM956 interested us in terms of phenotype. However, we wanted to outcross the strain before doing much work on it. Because the molecular information is not available on the mutation in the allele(md1088) and because finding out the mutation proved very difficult, I am now hoping someone else who has done all the work before might be able to help me out here.

Also, if someone here knows what the mutation is in the allele md1088 could you please let me know as that would be of a great help as well…

Thanks

Sudhanva

Perhaps you should email the lab where the allele was isolated? Although the mutation information may not be in a paper or on WormBase, they may have sequenced and found the mutation.
