I am saddened to inform you that Dr. Rosemary W. Elliott died on April 24, 2021.
Dr. Elliott was a person devoted to family, friends and the details of her genetics work. She was a faculty member at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology. She was very active in the International Mammalian Genome Society (IMGS) and served on committees there. Dr. Elliott was instrumental in many of the Mouse Chromosome Committee reports, incorporating newly developed techniques, such as Restriction Landmark Genome Scanning (RLGS) and two-dimensional electrophoresis, for making mouse models or congenic strains of mice. Colon cancer was of particular interest to her.
Rosemary considered education to be of top importance and mentored many graduate and post-doctoral students. She could be found at decades of IMGS meetings delving into conversations with trainees and introducing them to someone else who might be interested in their research. She especially enjoyed “keeping in touch” with trainees who went on to mentor their own students and run their own labs.
Rosemary will be missed by the genetics community, but her contributions have laid the foundation for many experiments yet to come.
