Summary of Duties:

This position provides professional level research support to the Principal Investigators (PIs) in the Sun lab and the Roberts lab in the study of the role of neural G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) in the regulation of reproduction and immune homeostasis in C. elegans and other projects.

The Scientific Assistant is expected to perform complex lab research. Performs laboratory research including the design of research approaches and identifying and defining research problems, collect, analyze and interpret research data while ensuring quality control, make improvements to techniques and interpretation. The position will also write reports and journal publications. The SA will manage and maintain daily laboratory operations, conducting laboratory maintenance and care of scientific instrumentation to ensure a safe working environment.

*This is a fixed term position; expected to end one year from date of hire. Position renewal will be contingent upon funding and or need for extension.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline and three (3) years of progressively responsible related professional research experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A Master’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline may be substituted for up to one year of the required work experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience with text and data processing software.
  • Experience with collecting and recording data.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Research experience in reproduction and/or neuroimmunology and/or working with C. elegans.

Monthly Salary: Minimum: $3,750.85, Midpoint: $4,574.21, Maximum: $5,397.56; commensurate with qualifications and experience.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range. Temporary End Date: This is a temporary position expected to end one year after date of hire. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
