'Worm labs': numbers and distribution..?

Just curious to know whether anyone has an idea of the total number of ‘worm labs’ and their geographic distribution.

those registed by the CGC;

http://www.cbs.umn.edu/cgc/lab-code

I make it 992 but Aric can probably say what the exact number is. There may be others not registered with the CGC.

The link also lists country of origin…you could open a bottle of wine (or two) and spend an evening with Excel sorting these!

Steve

grabbed the stuff from the CGC website, parsed it a bit using Excel and threw it back into a google doc:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0Aov3L3_pMV1JdGRHQkRKcUIxbFFBNWJlTlprclBJOXc&output=html

Note: the data formatting from the CGC website isn’t all consistent (I imagine the lab registration form evolved over time), so it’s a little messy

There are currently 4,191 labs registered with us, including both labs with alphabetic strain designations and numeric codes for use on our website. There are 1,025 labs with alphabetic designations. There were some new lab codes registered recently that have not been added to the Nomenclature page on our site yet…though that is on my list of things to do.

I’ve run a quick list of countries represented by registered labs. I might have missed some, so I apologize if you’ve ordered from us and your nation is not listed here: Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Botswana, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Cameroon, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Trinidad, Turkey, UAE, UK, USA, Uruguay, Venezuela, Vietnam

Some impressive statistics which underline how valuable the CGC is as a resource for the worm community.

thanks for correcting my rather pessimistic total Aric!

Steve

No problem!

Thanks chaps. Interesting figures!
